Ellis Gourmet Burger komt naar Nederland!

Getuige de vele hamburger restaurants die de afgelopen tijd hun deuren hebben geopend, lijkt het erop dat de hamburger een comeback aan het maken is als delicatesse. In dat licht ziet ook het Belgische Ellis Gourmet Burger zijn kans schoon om een kans te wagen in ons land.

De eerste vestiging wordt binnenkort geopend aan het stationsplein bij het recent verbouwde station Rotterdam Centraal. Pal naast het bekende Lebkov & sons en gek genoeg in hetzelfde pand als waar eerst een tweede wok your way zou komen. Dat gaat dus niet door.

Op de website valt een leuk verhaal te lezen over het ontstaan van de hamburger. Het gaat zelfs terug tot de 13e eeuw en Genghis Khan heeft er ook een rol in gespeeld!

Als we het menu bekijken zien we dat de burger uiteraard centraal staat en dat het in het Engels en Duits(??) is geschreven. Geen Nederlands of Vlaams. Daarnaast zien we nog typisch Amerikaanse zaken als o.a. homemade lemonade, coleslaw, muffins en brownies maar ook cheesecake en een chicken ceasar salad. Hieronder heb ik een deel van het menu overgenomen; de hamburgers met de Engelse tekst en de prijs.

Het is duidelijk een erg Amerikaans menu zoals je die overal in Amerika tegenkomt. Een portobello(grote champion) hamburger heb ik bijvoorbeeld niet eerder gezien in Nederland. Al met al ziet het eruit als een leuk concept en als ik op de recensies afga van onze zuiderburen dan zou het wel eens een groot succes kunnen worden. Maar dat is een kwestie van afwachten, je weet het nooit in Rotterdam. IK wens ze in ieder geval veel succes!
